Instructors
Kadie and Joe Pangburn
(Intermediate Track)
Kadie & Joe are known for their cuddly, partner-centric dancing. With a strong passion for connection and communication, they strive to make every dance a two-way conversation that promotes both individuality and collaboration between each other and the music.
For the past 8 years, the two have been passionately studying, preserving and sharing their love of Balboa, both as local teachers/mentors and as regional instructors. They are the creators and organizers of Balast Off! and also operate a bi-weekly balboa practice group out of their home.
A regular finalist at national and international Balboa competitions, Joe has received multiple 1st, 2nd & 3rd place placements for his dancing and together they have been participants of the Balboa Experiment for the past 5 years, where they were honored in 2017 as Honorary Fellows and served as guest mentors for the first time in 2018.
As instructors they are known for their ability to break down complex concepts into easily understood ideas. They enjoy sharing their love for balboa by bringing fun, laughter and the occasional spontaneous song into the classroom.

Music
Band
The Side Porch Swings
Recently coming into their sound, The Side Porch Swings are a New Orleans Jazz band from Clemson, South Carolina.
Balboa DJ
Kadie Pangburn
Kadie loves a good mystery, old Star Trek reruns and has a passion for the vintage jazz dances of the 30s & 40s. As a little girl she fell in love with actors like Gene Kelly, Fred Astaire, Ginger Rodgers and Vera Ellen. She would prance around her living room creating improv routines to old movie soundtracks, and that’s where she still draws many of her dance inspirations from to this day. For her, dancing is about sharing a deep, personal connection with another human being for those three minutes on the floor and creating something magical together. With a bachelor’s degree in the study of creativity and how human beings can function to their highest creative potential, Kadie brings a unique perspective – and a good dose of geekery – to all her classes.
Balboa DJ
Stephanie Stratton
Stephanie Stratton first got into DJing during the summer of 2015, when she went down the jazz music rabbit hole and never came back. Since then she has enjoyed DJing for various Lindy and Balboa events in and around her home scene. One of Stephanie's favorite things about DJing is being able to share the songs that she loves with other dancers and having the opportunity to see how those songs influence their dancing. Bonus points if the song causes someone to shout out "I LOVE THIS SONG" or run up and ask for the title/artist. If you happen to spot her behind the DJ booth at an event, be sure to ask her to dance!
Balboa DJ
Geoff Newell
Geoff hails from Athens, Ga, where he began his dance journey in the early part of 2011. As he grew on the dance floor, Geoff began to fall in love with the music he danced to, and now he travels all over the Southeast sharing that love with everyone who steps onto a dance floor. He is a regular part of the rotation in his local scene, and loves finding music to put a smile on the faces of dancers anywhere he goes. Geoff believes strongly in the idea that the music is an active part of any dance "conversation", and tries to find songs that make excellent partners for dancers of all skill levels. He approaches every DJ set with one sole mission: to keep the whole floor swingin’ all night long!"
Blues DJ
Russell Fulgencio
Hailing from the great white north, Russell’s taste in Blues Music is highly influenced by the local bars he used to frequent in Canada. With a whisky on hand and his signature scarf around his neck, you can guarantee he’s ready to play some tunes that’s sure to keep the crowd dancing all night.
Blues DJ
Markis Allen
Old Soul dj, with a passion for all music, except country. Misses real R&B, and loved to keep the crowd moving. Dj for 4 years, from social dances to weddings. Will probably play a throwback or two and something you've never heard before. Best feeling as a DJ is when the room goes silent and it's just dancers connected by the music.
